Upcoming meetings Alley Board Election Tako has found a great place to live! Unfortunately, it’s way over in Granbury. It’s difficult for him to make all the Alley Board meetings and he feels that it’s best that he resign his position as an At Large Board Member. That means that we need to elect his replacement. If you are interested in the position, please contact Ed. We’ll also be taking nominations from the meeting floor. |

President's Corner Howdy Joeys;
I was thrilled to receive the latest edition of the Calliope last week. On the cover was a picture of my "clown mom", LOLLI, or Jacki Graner to those of you who don't know her or haven't read the article yet. LOLLI has been named clown of the year by Clowns of America International. This award is long overdue in my opinion. She is, and always has been by "Clown of the year". I want everyone to know if it weren't for Lolli I would not be a clown. I met Jacki in 1990 at a bingo hall (playing bingo is one of her passions). We became friends and I was surprised to learn of her ine of work. We would show each other magic tricks and other "bits" I later learned to call walkarounds. I think she saw my potential as a clown and did everything she could to encourage me. I was shy and wasn't sure I could perform in front of people. Jacki assured me I could do it, and as luck would have it, she was starting a clown class in a couple months and needed students. After much deliberation and with a great deal of reluctance, my adventure began. Clown class began with seven of us clowns wannabees; there were several house-wives, a retired air traffic controller, a waitress and a dignified, matronly lady who had always wanted to be a clown. Looking back I feel sorry for Jacki, she didn't have much to work with. Class was a "hoot"!. We had a blast, we learned a lot, we fed off each other and couldn't wait for class each week. Now I realize we were the "best" class ever. Yeah, right. Time does temper one's memories. The matronly lady was forced to drop out (her family didn't approve) and the waitress dropped out because her work schedule changed. That left five of us to graduate in Lolli's first clown class. Now fifteen years later myself and Professor Owl are still lcowning. I can honestly say Jacki has changed my life. I would not have chosen this path for my life if it weren't for her. I am greatful and have thanked her many times, and I will continue to thank her for as long as I live. Jacki went on th teach tens of people,no, make that hundreds of people to be clowns. She continues to be an inspiration to all of us luck enough to know her. Contratulations LOLLI! This award is much deserved and long overdue. Buckle |

Spotliglht on Sharon Hodges - Hodge Podge My name is Sharon Hodges and my life began in earnest in Amarillo, Texas, where I grew up the product of a military family traveling extensively throughout my childhood. I spent three years living in Europe and returned to the US just in time to graduate from high school back in Amarillo, Texas again. I fell into the entertainment and art world by accident several years ago and have been totally hooked ever since. I began face painting and doing balloons for tips at a local theater at the urging of my cousin, Cinde Sanders (Boopsie the Clown) and progressed from there into my own clown character, Hodge Podge. I specialize in puppetry, magic, balloon art and face painting, doing everything from birthday parties to corporate events. In the field of clowning I have earned the 2002 Funny Business Entertainer of the year award, held various positions on the board of directors for Mid-Cities Clown Alley #85, including president for two years and helped to coordinate the Texas Clown Association Convention, 2001, hosted by Mid-Cities #85. As my growth as an entertainer has progressed my love of face painting has equally evolved. I have a strong connection with this art form and it is where I feel the most accomplished and comfortable. I have taken several classes from artists in this industry that are considered the best in the world and I attended the first Face Painting International Convention ever held in the US, in Orlando, FL in 2002. I have been an active supporter of the exploration and development of this art form. In 2003 I founded the first organized face painting group in the United States, DFW Face Painters Guild and held the position of president for the year 2003-2004. I am the owner of Enchanted Bodys/Your Enchanted Face, a company that specializes in all forms of face and body art enhanced by professional photography. I recently competed and received the highest award given at the 2005 Face and Body Art Convention in Orlando, Florida, First Place Best All Around. I have taught and demonstrated beginning and intermediate levels of face art and constantly strive to personally improve and share the skills and talents that I have. I truly feel that painting is a wonderful way to color our world, one face at a time. Happy Birthday To: |
