President's Corner

Happy New Year!!! Just the sound of it gives a person a feeling of promise, a sense of hope, an optimistic feeling, a brighter future than our past.  I just hope it’s better than the year that just ended.

Alley 85 is going to have a busy, busy, busy year.  Our preparations for the up coming convention have started in earnest again after the holidays.  There are lots of opportunities to help, if anyone would like to be involved in the alley I’m sure a task, that You would be perfect for, exists in our alley this year.  Please consider helping the alley, you will be glad you did, and T.C.A. and Alley 85 will be very grateful.  Remember many hands make light the work.
On another note, yearly dues are now due pay this month and take advantage of the reduced rates.
Lastly, come to the meeting this month, our program is going to be popcorn & a movie!  Actually we will be watching “clips” of our favorite
Old movies and TV shows, it should be a good time.
            Hope to see you there.

Spotlight on Jeanette Sanders

Dusti the Clown was born after a visit with my aunt and uncle, Lou and Bob Stoddard (Honey & Boppo the Clowns).  They told me stories about their adventures with the carnival and circus.  Uncle Bob’s eyes really lit up when he told me about the articles he wrote in the Carnival News.

They told me about their involvement as two of the founding member of Clown Alley 85 and the events and volunteer opportunities the Alley offered.

I told them about the two years that I volunteered at the Scottish Rite Hospital, visiting the patients, reading, talking or just visiting the children.  I helped the nurses station, distributed food and helped in the gift shop.  Aunt Lou and my mom encouraged me to join Alley 85.

I attended clown college at UT Arlington in 2000.  After graduating I attended four TCA Conventions and numerous balloon twisting workshops.

I volunteer my time at many events during the year such as Baylor Hospital of Irving, Children's Museum of Ellis County, Brookhaven Children's Cancer Party, Relay For Life and numerous others.

When Dusti isn’t volunteering her time, she is performing private birthday parties, corporate events, grand openings and family reunions.  She provides face painting, balloon twisting, magic and games.

January's Meeting

It's Clown night at the movies, complete with popcorn and soda!   We'll see what we can learn from watching classic I Love Lucy bits, Red Skelton skits and ..... your favorite "clowny" comedy movie and TV clips.   Bring your tapes cued up to the part you want to share (no longer than about 10 minutes) and be prepared to laugh.

Anyone wanting to make another payment on their cabin, please let Dale DePrima know.  She suggests that you might want to make a few payments before the 2nd due date to get the balance down.  The Next payment is due 8/17/06

During this year’s meetings a variety of items will be raffled to include in the fund raiser.  All money raised by the Alley will be matched (up to $70 per cabin) by Carnival Cruise.  Dale’s goal is to raise enough to get the maximum from Carnival.

Fellowship of Love

We’re sure you are aware that Tommy Cardwell, husband of Tina "Miracle" Cardwell, died early in December. Because of the hectic work schedules, only two of our clown friends were able to attend the service. All of us want to show Tina how much we care, so if your schedules allow come and drop by.

Therefore, Happi Tymes Alley and others from Mid-Cities, Cowtown and the Balloon Jam are holding a "Fellowship of Love" for Tina Cardwell on Sunday, January 15 between 3 and 5 PM. Stretch will be doing a Ministry with Balloons starting at 4p. There will be light refreshments. And you can socialize with Tina and the rest of the clown/entertainment folks that come.

Please put it on your calendar. It's a come and go, so come even for just a few minutes to show your support. It is always difficult to face something like this -- even with your friends close at hand. But Tina lives almost two hours from the Metroplex in Kemp. Which means she doesn't have clown friends who can just pop in during the time when it is difficult to face a lonely house! We just want her to know we care and love her!

Martha and Earl Warren                                                      Please RSVP
